This attracts visitors with its unique cathedral of Santa Ana in the old town. It is the largest and oldest church in Gran Canaria. It was built in 1500 as a sign of the conquest of Gran Canaria by the Spaniards. But it has been finally finished 1781.

Vegueta, the old town of La Palmas
If you are here on the isle and you're planing to take a trip to Las Palmas, we would highly recomend you the 'old part' of the city, Vegueta.
In this beautiful area, which is being renewed to be only pedestrian, you can find the market of Vegueta and several restaurants in which you can enjoy typical canarian food. I personally would recomend you "El HerreƱo".
You can also find the "house of Columbus" in Vegueta which is a museum about Chistopher Columbus. It is located directly behind the cathedral of Santa Ana. Today this house is a museum. Other buildings associated with Columbus in context are in Las Palmas.
