Happy Valentines Day!!
Id like to take some time now to tell you a story about this day. People worldwide celebrate st. Valentines day but most don’t know even why. What is the story behind all this? I’m not quite sure if it’s true, but certainly it’d make some of you smile.
It was the roman empire, around the third century. Claudius was the emperor by that time. Tired of men not wanting to join his "powerful" army of soldiers in order not leave their wives at home alone he decides to abolish marriage, so men would have no reason not to join him. Many were against it and so was a priest named Valentine who decided to keep on marrying couples in secret.
After getting caught during one of his secret ceremonies Valentine was put in prison and sentenced to death. People who were married by him and other who truly believed in love like him, those who admired him and were thankful through flowers and notes up to his cells’ window. A young girl, daughter of one of the prison guards, did so too and asked her father to let her get to him to talk to Valentine. After agreeing, these two talked almost every day, sometimes a for few hours, for a very long time.
On the day Valentine was to die, February 14, 269 A.D., he was so grateful to her for her friendship and loyalty, he wrote a goodbye letter to the girl, signing: "Love from your Valentine". From then on, people have been doing it till the present
day.
