The capital of Gran Canaria Island is Las Palmas, the same name is used for the Airport at witch every tourist arrives.

I stayed in a 2 Star categorized apartment and also in a 3 star categorized apartment. If you would like to have cheap holidays, its the best to book an 2 star apartment without breakfast or other meals because there are many abilities to get cheap food in San Fernando at some supermarkets located in the north of Playa del Inglés. The best place is Mercadona.

The main time for holidays is september till may. So in this time the prices per week goes up to 500 Euro per person without any meal. The cheapest time is the summertime from June till August. In these months you can book a week for less then 200 Euro per person.

A very good apartment would be Don Diego or Don Gregory. Both are located very central in Playa del Ingles.

A must seen on the island is “Roque Nublo” the highest mountain on the island.

Another beautiful place is Puerto de Mogan, this small city looks like Venice. There you can make an nautical trip with a submarine. I was very impressed and liked it very much.

The biggest event in the year is carnival (later then the rest of Europe), and the Maspalomas pride. The pride is especially for gay people. The carnival parade is one of the biggest party’s at the island. I liked the party after the parade at the yumbo shopping centre, called “fiesta de la noche”. Had much fun.

Gran Canaria was the first of the Canary Islands which I visited a few years ago together with a friend. We had our hotel in Playa del Inglés, a location full of tourists from all over the world. There we enjoyed relaxing in the sandy beach, and after the sun had gone down we spent some time in pubs like Turbo (very cool for fans of rock music) in the nights.

However, a Gran Canaria vacation does not mean that you have to go to the beach every day. I would recommend every tourist to see as many sights as possible. One day we took a taxi to the Palmitos Park, a botanical garden in the southern part of the island. There we saw many different kinds of animals and plants we had never seen before. The greatest attraction was the so-called Exotic Bird Exhibition Show, a real highlight.

Another day we decided to check-out a camel ride in the Camel Safari Park which is situated near the village of Fataga. Afterwards we had the chance to take a picture together with the animals and to enjoy a tasty typcial Canarian lunch.

It was also very interesting to get to know a few other parts of Gran Canaria. Puerto de Mogán is a fishing village on the southwest coast and a real attraction for every tourist. Because of the harbour it is often called „Venice of the Canaries“, and all of those beautiful buildings are really a picturesque sight.

Watching the sun going down in the Maspalomas Dunes was one of the most wonderful evenings during our vacation. We also had the possibility to see that rock in the ocean called El Dedo de Dios before it was knocked off by a tropical storm in 2005.

The mountains of Gran Canaria in the central part of the island are really fascinating. One day we went on a bus trip to Pico de las Nieves, the highest mountain of the island. That famous monolith called Roque Nublo is also to find in those mountains. However, do not forget to put on a jacket. It might be coolish and not as warm as in Playa del Inglés.

As I was hungry, I went downstairs for breakfast. The buffet was many-sided and very tasted. I like typical British food for breakfast, so I ate bacon and eggs and had a glas of orange juice as a drink.

Afterwards I went to the car-rental agency to get a vehicle as I wanted to be independent from public transport. Hiking is one of my great passions, and I wanted to reach a few corners you do not get into with a car. For that reason I left my car somewhere in the mountains to cross a few narrow paths and enjoy being alone with nature for a while. My personal highlight was to see a barrier lake.

After I had finished my trip and given back the rental car, it was time for a short refreshment in the waves of the beach in front of my hotel. The weather was not that hot, but water is always a good idea after an exhausting tour.

In the evening I wanted to get in touch with other young people, so I started to look for a place I could do that. Unfortunately there was no evening program in the Sahara Playa hotel. However, Playa del Inglés has a very lively centre of amusement which is called Kasbah. Finally I ended dancing in a club called Zig Zags where I had a few bottles of beer , met a nice group of football fans from London and had lots of fun with them. We stayed there until the DJ finished playing the last song at 6 in the morning. It was one of the greatest vacation nights of my life.

When I landed at the airport in Las Palmas, the capital city of the island, a few days later, the first impression was the fabulous climate. When I stepped on the tarmac, sunshine and a gentle breeze greeted me, letting me forget about snow and ice that I had left behind just a few hours ago.

There was a shuttle bus available from the airport to my hotel in Playa del Ingles, but I had decided to rent a car so that I could be independent from the start.

Picking up the rental at the airport was easy and soon enough I was off for a taste of Las Palmas traffic. I found a bustling city full of contrast. The old town, Vegueta, holds many historical sites and invites to a leisurely stroll.

Playa del Ingles is located on the other side of the island and I soon left the city behind in order to arrive at my final destination.

It is quite an experience crossing the island. I found the changing scenary astonishing. So many different landscapes on a realtively small island gave me the impression of travelling in a miniature world, where there is a little bit of everything on limited space. The only theme that seems to be omnipresent is bananas. Wherever you go there are bananas growing or being trucked from one place to another.

San Agustin, Playa de Ingles and Maspalomas share the most beautiful sand beach I have ever seen. The Maspalomas dunes at the southernmost tip of the island reminded me of African deserts and the beaches, though crowded, are fabulous for walking.

Gran Canaria offers a unique vacation experience and is well worth a visit.

Gran Canaria offers a total of 21 surfspots for beginners and andvanced windsurfers. The isle of Gran Canaria is very famous in the surfer scene and became an important place for championships and masterships in different disciplines in windsurfing. On Gran Canaria different masterships and other competitions are draged out.

Another famous windsurf beach is the beach of Playa del Ingles. Here also find place different competitions and masterships.

Other windsurfspots on Gran Canaria are Bahía Feliz, Ojos de Garza, Playa del Águila, San Augustín and Puerto Rico.

Round the spots you find a good infrastructure and windsurfing schools, which offer boards and accesory for rent. The windsurfing schools offer courses and lessons in windsurfing for beginners and advanced windsurfers. During your holiday on Gran Canaria you can learn windsurfing and enjoy a huge variety of windsurfing spots. On Gran Canaria you can rent a room in a hotel or book a holiday apartement directly only.

In the heart of the island of Gran Canaria a number of ravines lead down to the coast, which gives it´s special characteristic shape to the island together with the volcanic origin.

The climate in Gran Canaria is generally mild and with a an average of about 21 degrees during the whole year.

The central mountain range divides the climate of the isle into the south and southwest clime. The south is marked by trade winds and more sunny weather while the southwest is more cloudy and therefor more fertile.

Many wonderful beaches invite you to have bathing fun and sun pleasure. Very well known holiday resorts in Gran Canaria are Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés or the capital called Las Palmas.

One of the sights you shall visit is the picturesque old fisherman place Puerto de Mogan or the Palmitos park, an impressive bird and palm park.
As well the dunes of Maspalomas are very remarkable.

Nevertheless, the basically given approval of the isle administration does not state concrete aspects concerning the real start of construction of the train connection because a significant amount of details has to be clarified yet.

With this project idea other communes were also made considering similar ventures. Arranging a study checking the actual feasibility of an additional connection to Agaete in the north of the isle as well as the efficiency and profitability of the “Gran Canaria- Express” is the essential challenge at this time, Román Rodríguez declared at a press conference.

About three kilometers from the center of Castillo del Romeral you just have to follow the path in southern direction to get to this surfers paradise.

You will be suprised! Alltough this place is not that far away from Playa Ingles, it is not that touristy.

Near the rocky beach along the surfing spot you can find a nice little lake with lots of birds and little fishes.

And if you should become hungry by surfing, take a look at all these tiny seafood restaurant along the coast or just ask one of the locals where you could get something special to eat.

That is why you can find a lot of tourism here with a lot of hotels, appartments, restaurants, shops and tourist information points and other facilitys.

Playa del Ingles is especially favoured by gay people. If you like to have a drink or a party, you should take a look at the mall called Yumbo-Center.

If you prefer a calmer place for your holiday you should avoid the huge cities of Gran Canaria and visit the small villages abroad from the tourism, where you can join the traditons of the island.

The southwest and west is dominated by rocky cliffs, the coast is very varied in the north and northeast with numerous beaches and little bays. The centre of the island is hilly with a couple of high peaks and many ravines which lead to the sea.
