In the last years i travelled many times to Gran Canaria island. The island is one of the most beautiful places at the canary islands.

The capital of Gran Canaria Island is Las Palmas, the same name is used for the Airport at witch every tourist arrives.

I stayed in a 2 Star categorized apartment and also in a 3 star categorized apartment. If you would like to have cheap holidays, its the best to book an 2 star apartment without breakfast or other meals because there are many abilities to get cheap food in San Fernando at some supermarkets located in the north of Playa del Inglés. The best place is Mercadona.

The main time for holidays is september till may. So in this time the prices per week goes up to 500 Euro per person without any meal. The cheapest time is the summertime from June till August. In these months you can book a week for less then 200 Euro per person.

A very good apartment would be Don Diego or Don Gregory. Both are located very central in Playa del Ingles.

A must seen on the island is “Roque Nublo” the highest mountain on the island.

Another beautiful place is Puerto de Mogan, this small city looks like Venice. There you can make an nautical trip with a submarine. I was very impressed and liked it very much.

The biggest event in the year is carnival (later then the rest of Europe), and the Maspalomas pride. The pride is especially for gay people. The carnival parade is one of the biggest party’s at the island. I liked the party after the parade at the yumbo shopping centre, called “fiesta de la noche”. Had much fun.

The Canary Islands are one of the 17 Spanish Autonomous Communities. They are located in the Atlantic Ocean west of the Moroccan coast.

Gran Canaria was the first of the Canary Islands which I visited a few years ago together with a friend. We had our hotel in Playa del Inglés, a location full of tourists from all over the world. There we enjoyed relaxing in the sandy beach, and after the sun had gone down we spent some time in pubs like Turbo (very cool for fans of rock music) in the nights.

However, a Gran Canaria vacation does not mean that you have to go to the beach every day. I would recommend every tourist to see as many sights as possible. One day we took a taxi to the Palmitos Park, a botanical garden in the southern part of the island. There we saw many different kinds of animals and plants we had never seen before. The greatest attraction was the so-called Exotic Bird Exhibition Show, a real highlight.

Another day we decided to check-out a camel ride in the Camel Safari Park which is situated near the village of Fataga. Afterwards we had the chance to take a picture together with the animals and to enjoy a tasty typcial Canarian lunch.

It was also very interesting to get to know a few other parts of Gran Canaria. Puerto de Mogán is a fishing village on the southwest coast and a real attraction for every tourist. Because of the harbour it is often called „Venice of the Canaries“, and all of those beautiful buildings are really a picturesque sight.

Watching the sun going down in the Maspalomas Dunes was one of the most wonderful evenings during our vacation. We also had the possibility to see that rock in the ocean called El Dedo de Dios before it was knocked off by a tropical storm in 2005.

The mountains of Gran Canaria in the central part of the island are really fascinating. One day we went on a bus trip to Pico de las Nieves, the highest mountain of the island. That famous monolith called Roque Nublo is also to find in those mountains. However, do not forget to put on a jacket. It might be coolish and not as warm as in Playa del Inglés.

The isle of Gran Canaria is the third biggest of the Canaries. The islands are a part of the spanish mainland. The landscape consists of mountains, coastlines and valleys.

I travelled to Gran Canaria with my family. There we lived in a bungalow complex with two big swimming pools next to the bungalows. I think this complex was really amazing for kids because the parents can lie in the sun and the children can play in the pool for the kids.

We stayed in a city called Maspalomas. This town is situated on the east coast. Maspalomas is famous for its dunes and the beach.

I image that we have rent a car because we explored the isle on our own. However there they offer special tours to visit some wonderful places of the isle in a group.

Sometimes in the evening when it’s not so warm anymore we went to the shopping malls next to the city. They aren’t only interesting for the women.

I can only suggest a trip to Gran Canaria to YOU. Such a journey could be a remarkable adventure and it would be amazing. So check the offers for YOUR next holidays on the Canaries.

A few months ago I just had to get away from everything for a few days. I decided to book a trip online, just any destination and found a last minute offer to Gran Canaria. The offer looked really promising so I decided to book.

When I landed at the airport in Las Palmas, the capital city of the island, a few days later, the first impression was the fabulous climate. When I stepped on the tarmac, sunshine and a gentle breeze greeted me, letting me forget about snow and ice that I had left behind just a few hours ago.

There was a shuttle bus available from the airport to my hotel in Playa del Ingles, but I had decided to rent a car so that I could be independent from the start.

Picking up the rental at the airport was easy and soon enough I was off for a taste of Las Palmas traffic. I found a bustling city full of contrast. The old town, Vegueta, holds many historical sites and invites to a leisurely stroll.

Playa del Ingles is located on the other side of the island and I soon left the city behind in order to arrive at my final destination.

It is quite an experience crossing the island. I found the changing scenary astonishing. So many different landscapes on a realtively small island gave me the impression of travelling in a miniature world, where there is a little bit of everything on limited space. The only theme that seems to be omnipresent is bananas. Wherever you go there are bananas growing or being trucked from one place to another.

San Agustin, Playa de Ingles and Maspalomas share the most beautiful sand beach I have ever seen. The Maspalomas dunes at the southernmost tip of the island reminded me of African deserts and the beaches, though crowded, are fabulous for walking.

Gran Canaria offers a unique vacation experience and is well worth a visit.

The island of Gran Canaria is one of the most popular holiday destinations. The climate here is also warm in winter.

I have been there in December 2009 and spent at first some time in the island capital Las Palmas. This attracts visitors with its unique cathedral of Santa Ana in the old town. It is the largest and oldest church in Gran Canaria. It was built in 1500 as a sign of the conquest of Gran Canaria by the Spaniards. But it has been finally finished 1781.

The space in front of the Cathedral, the Plaza de Santa Ana, attracts the tourists with its beautiful buildings from different eras that surrounded this place.

Also the home of Christoph Columbus I’ve watched on my journey. It is located directly behind the cathedral. Today this house is a museum. Other buildings associated with Columbus in context are in Las Palmas.

After I have explored Las Palmas, I equipped the nature of the island a visit. Here you can experience the amazing flora and fauna of Gran Canaria, which results of its lush vegetation. Here I have looked at the Caldera de Bandama, a part of Tafira reserve. From here you have got unforgettable views over the beautiful nature of this island.

Not far from this untouched nature is the tourist city Maspalomas. It is always worth a visit to the dunes here. They are so big that you might think you stand in a desert.

I can say that a visit to this varied island is absolutley nice. Here you will find unspoiled nature, great sights and pleasant temparatures at a fair price. You should rent a car to get in more remote parts of the island.

Because af the abundance of different kinds of fishes along the coast of Gran Canaria one of the most famous sports here ist deep sea fisching. Lots of locals and tourists enjoy many hours by fishing directly on the coast or with an adventurous deep sea fishing trip.

The best months for deep water fishing are between May and November, but even during the rest of the year deep water fishing on Gran Canaria is possible. The most frecuent angled fishes are tuna or bonito, barracuda, marlin and sword fish. These examples can reach an impressionating weight and a huge size. It is very important that the angling rod and all the accessories are specially made for deep water fishing to resist this enormous forces. To take such a huge catch on bord of the boat you need a lot of force and endurance. A sword fish can reach a velocity of 90 km/h, which can be an enormouse energy to resist for the angling rod.

Who does not really know a lot about deep water fishing shall join such a trip only in companionship of a well experienced fisher man or a professional deep water fishing crew.

The government of the Canary Isles established some rules about the minimum size and species of the fishes, which can be angled. The rules are to protect some species in danger of extinction. If you practice deep water fishing you shall be well informed about those rules because the sea guards are realizing strenght controls. For non accordingly deep water fishing the coast and sea guards can punish you with a total of between 60 and 20.0000 €.

On Gran Canaria some agencies and professional deep water fishing organize deep sea fishing tripis for tourists and visitors.

Ahead the coast of Gran Canaria international records of deep water fishing have been realized. The records have been recognized by the IGFA (International Game Fishing Association). Deep water fishing ahead the coast of Gran Canaria is a very special experience during a holiday on the Canary Isle. Most deep water fishing trips are organized in Maspalomas in the south and La Aldea de San Nicolas in the Northwest of Gran Canaria.

If you are interested in enjoying a deep water fishing trip you can rent a room in one of the hotels or book a holiday apartment or a cottage near the marinas of Gran Canaria.

News about the project “Gran Canaria-Express” (train connection between Las Palmas and Maspalomas) – the isle administration acceded to the general feasibility of the whole project, so Román Rodríguez, vice president and responsible secretary concerning the field of transportation. For the first time detailed information pertaining the about 1 billion expensive train project are available for press and public.

In this context approximately 20 kilometres (42%) of the altogether 48 kilometres long route will take their course subterrestrial, further 3.7 (7%) kilometres will be made up of crossovers. The remaining distance of about 24,28 kilometres (51%) shall be covered abovegroundly.

Up to now 9 stages are regarded as fix points, such as Parque de San Telmo (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), the hospital Insular, Jinamar, Telde, the airport, Carrizal, Arinaga, Vecindario and finally Playa del Ingles.

Nevertheless, the basically given approval of the isle administration does not state concrete aspects concerning the real start of construction of the train connection because a significant amount of details has to be clarified yet.

With this project idea other communes were also made considering similar ventures. Arranging a study checking the actual feasibility of an additional connection to Agaete in the north of the isle as well as the efficiency and profitability of the “Gran Canaria- Express” is the essential challenge at this time, Román Rodríguez declared at a press conference.

the so called “AquaSur” as well as the “Ocean Park”. The last one was located at mid Maspalomas, but it is out of order nowadays.

The “Aquasur” finally turned into “Aqualand” in the course of the years and makes the largest leisure park of the isle by now. Covering a surface area of about 90.000 square metres this theme park aims at offering a great amount of water- based attractions such as for example more than 30 water slides. There is a certain area addressing at children which also contains a great variety of the park’s mascot, the “Aqualand”- ape.

Another amazing attraction is the famous “Tornado”, a closed flume entertaining visitors by presenting light- and sound effects while sliding. Furthermore there are tourist features like the “Mamut” for four persons, the “Crazy Race” with nine parallel water slides, a “mini park” for kid, the two “Kamikaze” slides (meaning high speed), “Rapids” as special rafting adventures as well as “Aquamania”, “Congo River” and a swimming pool with artificial waves for relaxing.

Situated at a tropical oasis in the southern part of the isle “Aqualand” is not far away from Maspalomas and is open to the public all- season because of its advantageous constantly warm temperatures.

Without renting a hire car the amusement park is approachable by using public transport. So there are two bus routes, one of them line 45 (Playa del Ingles / San Agustin) and the other one line 70 (Puerto Rico / Faro Maspalomas).

The big variety of landscapes available on this relatively small island invites visitors to go hiking or even to discover by backpacking.

One of the most breathtaking areas to visit are the sand dunes of Maspalomas, which will truly make you feel one with the nature. Measuring over 400 hectares, the natural reserve is a popular attraction, which is never being overcrowded.

The dunes are located near the popular town of Maspalomas on the south coast of Gran Canaria and can be reached easily from there.

The region is noteworthy, as it boasts some unique plants and species of animals that are native to that area and show ties to Africa.

The lagoon of Maspalomas, which is located in the middle of the dunes, is a major bird nesting center and popular for nature lovers and bird watchers.

The contrast between the dry, yellow coloured dunes that touch the horizon and the blue ocean beyond is truly spectacular and the dunes offer some of the best and most unique hiking opportunities on the whole island.

Recently, tourism has become a bit of a problem, but great measures have been taken to preserve the fauna and flora while allowing a tourism with it´s limit.
