ARC 2006

For those hardened sailors,

this acronym will actually mean something to you. For those who are not it stands for “Atlantic Rally of Cruisers” 2006, which starts today from the port of Las Palmas. This transatlantic cruise, organized by the World Cruising Club, will depart from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and will finish 2700 nautical miles and between 12 and 24 days later at the Rodney Bay in St. Lucia (Caribbean).

This rally has become already an international event, with participants from all over the world. This year 230 crafts will take part, being them cruising catamarrans from 27ft to 60ft LOA (8.23m to 18.29m) or cruising monohulls from 27ft to 85ft LOA (8.23m to 25.91m).

I haven’t found the exact departing time yet, though i’ve read in an article of the 2004 edition that it was at 13:00pm. So if you’re here on the island i would deffinitely recomend it to you. The “Avenida Maritima”, the avenue along the bay of Las Palmas, will be the best place to see this amazing spectacle. I’ll try to get there in time and if possible i’ll post some pictures when i’m back.
