Here is an update on the last entry, where i posted the different museums on the isle but with their spanish names, so i thought to myself they wouldn't mean anything to you if you didn't live here for a long time or even speak spanish. Therefore here is a downloadable file for those of you who would like a printable version of the table. Plus, i added som extra info, a small description so you'd know what the museums are all about. I hope its usefull: Museums

Museums on Gran Canaria

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007
Rcon Pascua, one of our usual blog-readers, posted a comment the Vegueta post, asking for some information about some museums here on the isle. Since i think this is something interesting to know for everybody, i prefer posting it as a normal post rather than as a response on a comment. Here are the different museums: NAME

The story goes…

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007
You wouldn't belive it, but apart from the 324 that arrived during the weekend, yesterday 6 'cayucos' (dugboats) arrived to our islands with the astonishing number of 464 illegal immigrants. 4 boats arrived to the 'Los Cristianos' port (Tenerife), 1 to the 'Las Carpinteras' beach in San Bartolomé de Tirajana (Gran Canaria) and another one to Arrecife (Lanzarote). I've said it once but this is really a tremendous job these days and i give a big 'thumbs up!!' for the Sea Rescue Team and the Guardial Civil Sea Patrol as well as to all the Red Cross and other volunteers that help out with these people, specially making it possible to rescue all the immigrants in time, no lifes lost this time. Great job guys!!

Vegueta

Sunday, May 13th, 2007
If you are here on the isle, and you're planing to take a trip to Las Palmas, i would highly recomend you the 'old part' of the city, Vegueta. In this beautiful area, which is being renewed to be only pedestrian, you can find the market of Vegueta and several restaurants in which you can enjoy typical canarian food. I personally would recomend you "El Herreño". The streets of Vegueta are very beautiful, have a look: Vegueta, Gran Canarias' spirit. Vegueta, Gran Canarias' spirit. Vegueta, Gran Canarias' spirit. Vegueta, Gran Canarias' spirit. You can also find in Vegueta, the "house of Columbus" which is a museum about Chistopher Columbus.

Sunny weather, sad consecuences

Saturday, May 12th, 2007
This last few days, have been extremely hot and sunny. The 'Calima' striked us once again this week bringing, apart from the sticky hot air, its usual lack of any other weather phenomenon. Unfortunately this brings, not only beach mood, but also an inmense 'wave' of illegal immigrants who take advantage of this weather condition to make try their way to us. Yesterday, the astonishing number of 241 subsaharian immigrants arrived at Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife, intercepted by Sea Rescue and the 'Guardia Civil'. Today, a new 'cayuco', the type boat they travel in, was intercepted on its way to Tenerife with 101 immigrants on board, raising the whole number of subsaharian immigrants to 342 in less then 48 hours. Really sad :( . How bad has their life to be over there to risk their lifes and savings over and over again, knowing their possibility of getting caught is almost 95%.
