Gay community, listen up!!

Saturday, January 13th, 2007
This year, like every year around this date, it's time to start thinking about carnival. Since we have a one of the most picturesque carnival celebrations and unique Drag Queen Galas. This will probably mean more to the gay community on the isle, but anyway, i'm pround to announce that the main performer at the 2007 Drag Queen Gala in Las Palmas will be no other than "Gloria Gaynor" together with "Bananarama". The carnival in Las Palmas will start february 2nd and end the 24th. Their theme this year: Belle Epoque.  - Election of the Carnival Queen: february 9th  - Drag Queen Gala: february 16th  - The Big Carnival Parade: february 17th The carnival here in Maspalomas/Playa del Ingles, San Bartolomé, will be from february 22nd till march 4th and will officially be inspired the Europe of the early 20's.  - Election of the Carnival Queen: february 24th  - Drag Queen Gala: ...

It’s never “just wind”…

Friday, January 12th, 2007
The windy weather i wrote yesterday about, still remains, but has a "fellow phenomenon". I'm talking about our "good ol' calima". What is bad weather here without calima. (Haha :D) For those who haven't tuned in since this blog's beginning, calima is "suspended dust", making air sticky and thick. (Read & see more about it here) This ins kinda weird since, normally when there's "calima" there's nothing else. Winds of up to 80km/h are said to be hitting the city, Las Palmas. Some slight rain-fall may appear in certain zones. Gentlemen, take care of your hats and caps. Ladys, watch out for those skirts! ;)

Cane hit by wind

Today morning i woke up and this is what i got. A windy stormy weather after days of holyday sunshine. We're a "miniature continent", many different kinds of weather and climate types depending on the region, thats why things can change in just a matter of a few hours. But i think it's normal for the meteorologists have said that the winter in late this year. The isle need some water, but lets hope it'll be just right enough to fill the dams.

Ephemeral art

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007
The nativity scene made out of sand, at the "Las Canteras" beach in Las Palmas, i posted nearly a month ago (see pictures here) is now gone.

It took the artists almost ten days to build it and yesterday, in a matter of an hour, 50 kids from a public school kicked and punched it down, relieving their adrenaline level. Their teacher said that the day before they could barely teach their lessons once the kids got the news, they were the ones in charge of "destorying" this artwork, due to their nerves.

Well, lets just wait for the next year to see another "destruction derby". :D

Clearance sales

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007
you heard right, the first clearance sales of the year started yesterday. If you want you might want to have a look. They're across almost every store in non-touristic areas, since they have to get all the "winter-stuff" out to make space for the new seasons' clothes. This clearance sales will last until March 7th and in some stores have a discount of up to 60% or more. Prices will keep going down through out this period, so there's no need to hurry, things will get cheaper.
