This goes out to the “bratz”

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006
Yesterday started the 2006 childhood & youth fair at the "recinto ferial", the fairground in Las Palmas. "PLANETA GC 2006" is the official name given to this event wich will take place this entire week, including the only snowcourse built on the canary islands. Though there are several other events, all designed for kids, this is the main attraction with a surface of 300m². "Where's the snow?" is what almost every kid said at the entrance of the fair. Among the activities taking place there are inflateable castles, trampolines, scalextric (model-cars race court) and a lot other diversions. If you have kids and you're on the island, i'd deffinitely recomend you to take them there. They'd be grateful for sure.

The port of Agaete grows to a harbour

Sunday, December 17th, 2006
At least this is what a project has planed, according to the regional infrastructure ministry. They exhibited this future project for the public including its possible environmental consecuences. This would multiply the number of passengers, thanks to a new shipping company, and double the capacity for fishingboats and other crafts of the actual docks to a total of 324 anchoring points. Since the port of Agaete has become a stategic spot for the canarian economy throughout the last years, the project also states to house a 1000m² shopping area with parking spaces, relocating the docks of the large ships away from the swimming areas. Lets hope they have done this project the way it ment to be, since Agaete is one of the most beautiful fishertowns we have, and this sound to me as if it would mess up the entire environmet. We'll see.

Watching the city

Thursday, December 14th, 2006
Since yesterday, 4 new high-resolution cameras were installed and hopefully will make the more problematic streets of the "Santa Catalina" zone, in Las Palmas, more secure. The quality of the cameras is inmense and allows to zoom along the entire 4 streets they were placed, making it possible to recognize registration numbers of vehicles or even the expressions on peoples faces. These high-resolution cameras are able of providing perfect images, even at night, thanks to night vision. The cameras were installed at the crossing of 4 streets: "Luis Morote" with "Secretario Artiles", "Torres Quevedo" with "Bernardo de la Torre", "José Franchy Roca" with "Joaquín Costa" and "Nicolás Estévanez" with "Tomás Miller" with a cost of 81.000€. "Pepa Luzardo", the Las Palmas mayor, said that two more would be installed directly at the Santa Catalina" square before carnival, to be able to "have an eye on the mases" during the party days. Lets ...

“Mojo picón” – our famous mojo-sauce

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006
Like i said, here is the recipe of the most typical sauce made on the canary islands. Since today is the day of "Santa Lucía" and i already posted the recipe of the "Papas arrugadas", i think i'll be appropriate to let you know this saucy treasure of ours. Ingredients: Garlic, cooking salt, red hot chili peppers (not the band :D), crumb, caraway, oil and vinegar. Preparation: - First we need to pound half a dozen garlic cloves with two fingers of salt (cooking salt) and half a tea-spoon of caraway until we get a homogeneous paste. - Then we add a few chopped peppers (the more you put in, the hotter the sauce will get) and we continue pounding untill everything is even again. - After that we add a piece of crumb (not big) that we've had in vinegar before. (Though, there are some cooks that leave the step of putting the ...
