Lighted Las Palmas
Wednesday, December 6th, 2006
Yesterday evening,
shortly after the sunset, Las Palmas was "switched on" by its mayor Pepa Luzardo. She was the one in charge of pressing the button which illuminated the city with more than 1 million "micro lightbulbs", better known as LEDs, short for Light Emiting Diodoes. Streets, squares and avenues where immersed in a matter of seconds by this years' christmas lighting.
All in all, 1.139.456 LEDs were attached to 421 palm trees and 47 other trees in neighbourhoods like, "Schamann", "Vegueta", "La Isleta", "Las Canteras" or "Triana" with a cost of 30.000€
If you have the chance to visit Las Palmas by night during December, like my friend nike uses to say: just do it!! :D It just looks amazing, so its highly recomendable. I'll try to make some pictures and post them here for those of you who can't go there.
