Shaken, Not Stirred

Friday, November 24th, 2006
Casino Royale, thats the title of the new James Bond movie, based on the charecter created by novelist Ian Fleming. The 22nd movie, the 21st official one, about this british super spy, starring Daniel Craig (James Bond) and Eva Green (Bond Girl: Vesper Lynd), had its world premiere in London on November 14th and its Spain premiere is today. "The new Bond" has recieved very good critics from everyone and is said to be the most realistic Bond in a long time. "Simply brilliant" by the BBC is the expression that fits almost every critic, beside the fact that Daniel Craig has managed to be compared with Sean Connery, bringing back the charm and magnetism to this saga. I have seen some scenes of it in trailers and tv-spots and i can't wait to see it. If its really true what they say about him being ...

Warning, Salmonella outbreak

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006
Warning, The regional health ministry detected an outbreak of "salmonella kottbus" in bottled water of the "Breña Alta" brand. Though it caused 4 slight cases of "gastroenteritis" on children, it is under control. To avoid a suspected epidemy comming from the consumption of this water, the Public Health Directorate carried out a sanitary inspection at the water factory, taking samples and confirming the presence of this microorganism in the water and detecting processing mistakes. The factory was temporarily closed and the product was confiscated there and at avery distribution centre of the Island. Though it is said to be under control, be very careful and i would recomend you not to drink this water within a few weeks to avoid possible infections.

Hunting idiots or idiots hunting?

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006
A few weekends ago, Iñaki, the guard of the "Las Niñas" dam was shocked when he watched "hunters" shooting, with aparently no criteria, at the ducks that lately have been staying in this reservoir. He saw from the dam's viewpoint these "hunters" shoot at the birds and just drive away, leaving them behind. These birds had grown to a little colony after a friend of his had given him a few specimen, and had also become a little attraction for the visitors that every weekend visit this reservoir. A pair of "fishing-eagles" where often seen in this region too, but since this problem began they're gone. You don't have to be very clever to know where they probably have gone. I don't know why people do this kind of things. They are not that much that could be seen as a plague or anything like that. The "seprona", the guards in charge of nature ...

“Calima” is back!

Monday, November 20th, 2006
For those of you who ever wondered what i'm talking about when i write something about "calima", here are some picture i took this midday. The technical deffinition by local meteorologists is "suspended dust". But this is also accompained by an almost complete lack of other weather phenomenon: No wind, no sun, no clouds. Except for a slight increase of the temperature, since this dust is blown here from Africa, the weather is like "stuck".

Inmigration continues

Saturday, November 18th, 2006
Sea rescue has a lot of work to do, again. Today at 14:00 the canarian sea recue center informed about the presence of a boat with 25 inmigrants 77 miles away from our coast. The boat, better known as "Patera" or "Cayuco" for the larger version of it, was detected by a routine surveillance flight of the SAR, the spanish Air Rescue Service. A tugboat departed to intercept the small boat and will arrive tomorrow morning at 8:00 o'clock at the port of Arguineguin, where helpers from the Red Cross will take care of them, giving them water, food and dry clothes. Hopefully they will be all ok.
