Iceless Ice-skating

Thursday, November 30th, 2006
This might sound a bit weird, actually it does, but still it's true. The "Las Arenas" shopping centre in Las Palmas has set up, just like last year, an ice-skating rink but this year it has no ice. The clue, polyethylene panels wetted with a special liquid which makes its surface as slippery as ice. The rink, called Canary Ice Land has a size of 400m² and is located on the terrace of the "Las Arenas" shopping centre, on the top floor. For those of you who'd like to visit this, it will be open daily until January 20th from 17:00 to 22:00. These opening hours will change to: 11:00 to 22:00 when the school vacations begin, around the 20th of this month. Entrance: 6€ for 45 minutes. It's said to be as slippery as last year but less wet, so for those of you who haven't done any skating before ...

A Tram for Las Palmas ??

Monday, November 27th, 2006
"Jerónimo Saavedra", leading candidate for mayor for Las Palmas for the socialist party, plans to use this statement to support his campaign. He says that it is sad to admit that in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which has a more difficult orography than we have in Las Palmas, the work is already being finished. He also stated that this would relieve a lot the actual traffic chaos our capital is in and would do something remarkable for the environment giving the city its "splendour and prestige" back. I would deffinitely vote for this guy if i wasn't living in Maspalomas (South of Gran Canaria). Las Palmas is completely collapsed when there's rush hour and this would help a lot.

This transatlantic cruise, organized by the World Cruising Club, will depart from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and will finish 2700 nautical miles and between 12 and 24 days later at the Rodney Bay in St. Lucia (Caribbean). I haven't found the exact departing time yet, though i've read in an article of the 2004 edition that it was at 13:00pm. So if you're here on the island i would deffinitely recomend ...

3, 2, 1, go!!

Saturday, November 25th, 2006
Once again, this time in its 33rd edition, an entire weekend is dedicated to the "Rally of Maspalomas". This competition is valid for qualifying for the Las Palmas and the Canary Islands Rally Championship. The parking by the maspalomas soccer stadium has turned into a rally service area for every team participating in this event in which every team has its own technical assistance stall. This event atracts a lot of motorsport fans from across the island and is something you shouldn't miss if you like anything which has something to do with cars. The driving routes will go through the municipalities of San Bartolomé and Santa Lucía. You can see the exact routes the rally will go through here. And this is how the parking look like, pictures taken an hour ago:
