La Aldea de San Nicolás, Gran Canaria
"La Aldea de San Nicolás" or better known as "La Aldea"
is the municipality which lies more west.
Looking on the map of Gran Canaria, it lies beneath Agaete and
above Mogán. It has a very uneven surface and the coast parts
and small beaches it has are the result of volcanic activity,
since almost all of them are either not accessible by land or
are the mouth of a ravine.
The town of "La Aldea" itself is a small neighbourhood of
about 8400 inhabitants and is very well known by the canarios
for the "Fiesta del Charco". This festivity is a congregation
of thousands people in a giant puddle at the "San Nicolás" beach.
At 5:00pm the signal is given with a single firework shot, and
everybody rushes into the puddle in order to catch the largest fish.
The beach of "Güi-Güí" is also something you shouldn't miss.
